Our friend Melinda Riley from Red Development just sent over an update on the restaurants and businesses scheduled to open at City Scape in the next few months. Of note is the July 25th opening of CVS and the much anticipated opening of Lucky Strike Lanes in August. Below is the complete list as we have it.

lucky strike Lucky Strike Lanes (August)

Born in Hollywood, Lucky Strike offers upscale bowling with a chance to “eat, drink, and knock down some pins.” Lucky Strike Lanes offers upscale bowling, dining and cocktailing in a posh lounge setting.

Craft beers and pub food, also from Doyle.

Huey’s 24/7 Diner (October)

The kitchen will never close at this diner, which promises inexpensive comfort food.

Jimmy Carlin, the man behind notable Valley restaurants Cajun House, Blue Wasabi and Humble Pie, takes on Pan-Asian fare with this sushi stop.

Sam Fox’s Chop House (Fall)

City Scape to Add 3 Restaurants and a Lounge

April 29, 2010 by The Urban Team · 1 Comment

Welcome to our City Scape update for April 2010. The gang at Red Development just announced additions to the already impressive list of tenants for the downtown Phoenix project. The latest is the addition of three restaurants and a cocktail lounge to the mix.

The Doyle Group, a New Orleans restaurant company is set to bring some fun new offerings touted to be value priced diversions from the norm.  The new places are to include:

la crepe La Crepe Nanou: A romantic French bistro with a New Orleams flair featuring a yummy assortment of crepes (both entre and desert), fondue, roasted meats, salads and lots more. It will be based on their existing New Orleans store that has gotten some pretty rave reviews on Yelp.

BrewPublic Craft House: The focus is craft style beers and light food faire in this new concept from the Doyle Group. ( I have a call into the Doyle Group to get more details and will update this post when I hear back from them.)

Huey’s 24/7 Diner: I think the name says it all. Reported to have an inexpensive menu. I hope that is true as we need more affordable venues at CityScape.

rasputin Rasputin Vodka Bar: Rasputin was a Russian mystic and sometimes called the Mad Monk. Don’t know what that mean in relationship to a bar/lounge except I have had cryptic thoughts myself after imbibing spirits… mostly from Tequila though, not Vodka.

The restaurants are scheduled to open in the Fall and provides even more evidence that downtown Phoenix is the place to live, work and play.

Speaking of living… if you need to find a great place to call home in downtown Phoenix, we are here for you. Whether its a condo, historic home or just a sweet house, we’d be honored to help you find the right space.

Drip is Toast

Toast intWell not really, but the same great people that brought you the Drip Coffee Lounge have re-tooled and now opened the Toast Breakfast Boutique.   Using all local and mostly organic products, Toast is a one-of-a-kind breakfast boutique in downtown Phoenix.  It’s small, intimate modern atmosphere provides a place to relax, eat & have a conversation.

The menu changes frequently, but you will always be able to order the fabulous NYC egg sandwich.  So stop in – eat, relax and leave your laptop at the office!

Toast Breakfast Boutique is located at 2327 N. 7th Street

A growing appetite for downtown Phoenix dining

July 22, 2009 by Lyle Plocher · Leave a Comment

That’s the title of a very extensive article appearing at azcentral.com today detailing the momemtum that the downtown Phoenix dining scene is gaining.

By Howard Seftel and Megan Finnerty

Looking past the current economic downturn, optimistic restaurateurs believe downtown Phoenix is poised to compete in the next few years with Scottsdale as a dining destination.

The momentum has been jump-started by a group of independent chefs and entrepreneurs who believe in the area’s potential. They, in turn, have inspired a fresh wave of high-profile names with big plans to rush in and stake a downtown claim.

New arrivals say downtown Phoenix has reached a tipping point, energized in part by light rail and the Arizona State University campus.

Tuck Shop

006The name of this establishment is very unusual, actually when reading some of the Yelp reviews, I thought it was pretty funny that one person doing google searches for the place was looking for Truck Stop.  Anyway, in the heart of the Coronado Historic District at the circle intersection, 12th St & Oak, has arisen a new restaurant whose offerings, the owners have dubbed “neighborhood comfort food”.  The space was originally, a local branch of a Credit Union or Bank with vault still intact.  The building has been transformed by it’s owner DJ, also a Construction guy into a mid-century modern looking hangout.   Sounds like people are liking the citrus brined fried chicken with white cheddar waffles and the gin and tonic with homemade gin and a cucumber twist.

Hanny's is now open

Hannys at nightThe reviews have been mixed on the new Hanny’s Restaurant which recently opened in the former Men’s Clothing Store of the same name at 1st St & Adams in Downtown Phoenix.  I have been there once for a brief business meeting and did not get to sample the menu.  The interior renovations are very classy with a minimalist kind of effect.  More to come on both the space and the food.
