A number of people have asked us to upload the pictures we’ve take of historic homes in Phoenix AZ. This is a pretty big project and we’ll be starting with some of our favorite pictures from the Willo Historic District in downtown Phoenix.
Willo Historic is considered to have some of the finest examples of revival style homes in the Phoenix area. Revival is a generic term used in conjunction with an architectural style to describe many of the design favors builders used in the early 1900’s. History tells us the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 and the Panama-California Exhibition of 1915 introduced what we call period revival home styles such as Tudor, Cottage, and Spanish Colonial. We are told the Spanish Colonial style led to many other southwestern revival styles such as Monterrey, Santa Barbara, Pueblo and more.
While Willo Historic District is home to ranch style homes of the late 1930s-1940’s, our photo collection will focus on homes of an earlier vintage. We hope you enjoy our photos of Willo Historic District. By the way, if you have some of your own you’d like us to add to the collection, just email them to us at Gene@UrbanTeamAZ.com. If you have some history notes to go with them we’d love to read that as well.
