Mercantile is gaining some new energy as they come into their 2nd year of business. It was originally a hair salon, but now they offer well priced vintage clothing. A recent article in the downtown devil should add even more exposure to this downtown business.
Since I’m a guy, its hard for me to say much about their skills at styling, cutting and coloring hair, yet I do like the look of the place. A bit of commercial loft feel that is not common in the downtown scene.
I decided to check out the Yelp reviews on the salon and found them positive and enthusiastic. One reviewer said:
I’ve known Shauna since middle-school. She was always an amazing artist, and her artwork hangs in her studio as a testimony to this. She has an amazing eye for aesthetics and incredible style. It’s classic and vintage and distinct. I love how this has translated to her shop. Mercantile is a gem; it’s locally owned, filled with vintage treasures, and it makes you feel good knowing you’re supporting the community and not just another annoying chain of chemically scented chair shops.
If you’re looking for an Indi-business that just happens to take care of your hair and fashion, take a trip to Mercantile located at 828 N. Central.
