The weather is warming up, which means it’s time to rev up those engines and escape to cooler ground! The great thing about living in Phoenix is we are a short drive away from many amazing destinations. Here are a few of our favorite weekend vacation spots to escape the heat and hunker down with friends and family.
Flagstaff, AZ
Just a two-hour drive north on I-17 is a summer time paradise! Enjoy hiking, biking, downtown shopping, amazing drinks and eats … and oh so much more! If camping is your thing, Flagstaff and the surrounding areas have the perfect campgrounds to get ‘off the grid’ for a weekend and sleep under those towering pines.
BONUS! Flagstaff, is a quick stop to other amazing destinations throughout our state. Take a quick drive down to Sedona, or a drive out west towards the Grand Canyon! Make it a weeklong adventure and explore the various regions of Arizona!
San Diego, CA
Six hours west on I-8 leads to instant happiness at the beach! Take some time on the historic Coronado Island, or a day at the infamous San Diego Zoo to kick off your trip on the right foot! Whether you are looking for nightlife in downtown San Diego or just a relaxing time on the beach – San Diego has all you could ever want in a family vacation, and then some.
Santa Fe, NM
If you are looking for a bit of a longer road trip, head out east to Santa Fe! This nearly 8 hour drive (or 2 hour flight if that’s more your thing) will bring you to the land of Pueblo-style architecture and creative arts hotbed. Explore ancient Native American ruins filled with petroglyphs or a living history museum devoted to Spanish Colonial life. Visit centuries-old adobe and European-style churches. Ride a historic working railroad or enjoy the unique architecture of downtown Santa Fe.
Las Vegas, NV
Maybe more of an ‘adults only’ vacation – although there are plenty of kid friendly activities! Just a five-hour drive from Phoenix and you will hit the glittering lights of the Las Vegas strip! Enjoy world-renowned dining options, amazing entertainment and of course, all that glitters in Vegas!
